Beyond Borders: An International Student’s Guide to Summer Programs
Summer is a time of exploration, warmth and renewal. What better way to celebrate summer than in new surroundings and with new people! A summer study program is an interesting learning opportunity for a student who is looking for change; a study abroad program that provides new experience without the hassle of long term stay. However there are things students preparing to leave should remember.
Passport and Visa: Students should make sure all their documents and paperwork are in order before they leave the country for their chosen destination. Visa applications take a while to process, so it must be initiated as early as possible.
Accommodation: Taking the time to find good host families, and then finalizing everything related to the accommodation for the student’s stay there ensures trouble free staying. Luggage: A mobile phone with good translation capabilities, a quality camera with video recording options to capture cherishing moments during the student’s stay, tokens and souvenirs from the student’s home country to give people who help them will go a long way to making the students’ life much easier. Talking to people about the items they missed most and were hard to find will help prepare the items to take when the student leaves.
Credit: Another very important thing to remember is finding out whether the credits from the chosen summer program are accepted back in the home school. Fun and experience are all good things but if what students learn is not valid in his native country there is no point.
Investing time and effort to the preparation is key feature to make the students’ study abroad program a success. Students can guaranteed to receive the benefits of their international experience if due diligence is applied before, during and after the summer study program.
